A new study published in Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology examined if there is a link between “persistent” asthma and an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF).

The study hypothesized the potential association due to the fact that AF and asthma both have an “underlying inflammatory pathophysiology.” The researchers examined over 6,000 participants with varying ethnicities, and ultimately found that there is in fact an connection between asthma and AF.
