The research team collected longitudinal data from the Nurses’ Health Study II Conservation of Hearing Study by examining the changes in hearing sensitivity in the participants over a 3-year period.
The results indicated that women who strictly followed a healthy diet (for example, the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet or the Alternative Mediterranean diet), had “substantially lower risk of decline in hearing sensitivity.”
Previous research has shown that healthy diets may result in a decreased risk of several health conditions, including hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The old adage, “you are what you eat” speaks volumes, and as healthcare research continues to investigate the connection between food and health, this phrase is sure to become even more meaningful.
