Maiki Darnell RNC-NIC, IBCLC, University of Colorado College of Nursing, Anschutz Medical Campus
I’m a WHNP student at the University of Colorado. I’m currently a Lactation Consultant at Children’s Hospital Colorado, supporting medically fragile infants primarily in the NICU and CICU, but have a strong background in NICU nursing and HIV/AIDS research.
I was drawn to be a Women’s Health NP because I believe the best way to support women is by educating them about their bodies and personal health and supporting them to make the best decisions for their own lives.
Empowering women encourages them to become stronger as a community and as a population to become a driving force for the world. I’m passionate about helping women and families navigate their health and wellness and the changes that occur throughout their lives.
My favorite areas to work with are adolescents, pregnancy and postpartum, birth control counseling, and supporting refugee/immigrant populations.
I’m a Colorado Native, born and raised in Northern Colorado (Fort Collins), but the majority of my family is in Toronto, Canada or Estonia. In my free time, you can find me hanging with my two kids (5 and 7 years old), my woodworker/musician husband, tending to our garden and 7 chickens, or renovating our vintage 1979 camper.
